The Pergola Is Finished — And the View Is Everything We Hoped For

Outdoor dining for twelve, string lights overhead, and a sunset that stops conversation mid-sentence.

Finished!

It’s all we hoped for.. and then some. Ready for 12 people enjoying a meal and good times.

It's done. After months of stonework, timber, and careful planning, the pergola at Villa Asti is finally complete — and it might just be our favourite spot on the entire property.

Built from local stone pillars and heavy wooden beams with a traditional reed canopy, the structure sits at the edge of the hill with an unobstructed panorama across the Bormida valley and the rolling hills of the Alta Langa. The view stretches for miles in every direction, forest, and distant ridgelines all the way to the Ligurian Apennines on clear days.

A Table for Twelve

At the centre sits a large teak dining table with seating for twelve — big enough for a proper Italian dinner with all the courses, all the wine, and all the time in the world. Morning coffee with mist in the valley below. Long afternoon lunches with a cool wine or bitter from the area. And evenings where the sunset puts on a show that makes everyone reach for their phone, even though no photograph quite does it justice.

This is the kind of outdoor dining that Piedmont was made for.

The Finishing Touch: String Lights

The warm Edison-style string lights strung across the beams were sourced from Bo-Tikken a interior shop in Denmark. The lights cast exactly the right glow: warm enough to feel intimate, bright enough to actually see your plate. On a still summer evening under the reed canopy, with the hills fading to silhouette, the effect is something close to magic.

Why It Matters.. well ..life

A villa can have beautiful bedrooms, a stunning pool, a well-equipped kitchen — but the place where guests actually live during a stay in Piedmont is outdoors. The pergola is where the holiday happens. It's where you open the second bottle, where the children come running back from the garden, where someone says "I could stay here forever" and means it.”. We would love the have created a unique space where this takes place

Early in the morning the light is like gold

We built Villa Asti around that feeling. The pergola is its heart.
