The Kitchen at Villa Asti ~the Heart of the House
The kitchen at Villa Asti
is now fully completed. It was created by cabinetmaker Simone Ratto in Liguria, and for us it has become exactly the room we had dreamed of:
a warm, open and generous kitchen where the house naturally gathers around food, people and conversation.
From the very beginning, the idea was not to create a classic “show kitchen”, but a Southern European kitchen with soul. A kitchen that feels like a natural part of an old Piedmontese stone house – robust, beautiful and functional – while still offering the comfort and aesthetic one expects from a modern holiday home.
A Mediterranean kitchen with soul
The kitchen is built around several handcrafted wooden elements along the wall. At the centre stands the large Bertazzoni gas range, giving the room a professional and distinctly Italian feel - a true pearl. Above the range is a hood with a classic Southern European character.
Next to it is the large kitchen island with a sink and seating for three people. This is a place to enjoy a morning coffee, follow the cooking, or simply be close to those preparing the meal. The island makes the room feel lively and informal – exactly as we wanted it.
Materials, light and atmosphere
The choice of materials has been essential. The wood, natural stone, warm floors and calm wall colours all work together with the rest of the house. The kitchen therefore does not feel like a separate room, but as a natural continuation of Villa Asti’s atmosphere: welcoming, relaxed and elegant. It opens towards the shared living spaces and in this way becomes one of the most important gathering points in the house.
The lighting has been curated by Bo-Tikken Interior, who also helped us create the special balance between Italian country living and Nordic simplicity. The lamps above the kitchen island cast a warm and inviting light, making the kitchen just as atmospheric in the evening as it is in the morning.
And .. a practical second kitchen
An added bonus is the secondary kitchen next to the main kitchen. Here, we have created a practical utility kitchen with plenty of space for groceries, storage and preparation. It also includes an extra refrigerator, a wine fridge, a freezer and an ice machine – everything that makes everyday life easier, especially when the house is full of family, friends or guests.
kitchen. #2
A practical space for preparing, storing - and the way to the wine cellar.
The place to gather
For us, the kitchen has become more than a functional room. It has become the heart of Villa Asti. A place where one can cook with local ingredients, open a bottle of wine from Piedmont, gather around the table and feel the special calm of the house.
This is exactly how we hope our guests will use it. Not only as a kitchen – but as a place to be.
